Dr Janez Potočnik

Co-Chair of UNEP Environment International Resource Panel

Dr. Janez Potočnik graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He served as the director of the Institute for Macroeconomic Analysis and Development in Ljubljana. He was appointed as the head of the negotiating team for Slovenia's accession to the European Union and held the position of Minister in charge of European Affairs.

In 2004, he joined the European Commission as the Commissioner responsible for science and research, and in 2010, he became the Commissioner for the Environment. After his term, he was appointed as the co-chair of the UNEP's International Resource Panel for the Environment. He is also a partner at SYSTEMIQ.
